FACULTY AND STAFF:

Marymount's reputation of academic excellence can be credited to the dedicated faculty and the strong influence of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary.  Numbering over 90 men and women, the faculty is composed of committed teachers, advisors and coaches who inspire students to strive for excellence.  Three Sisters presently serve the school.

50 % of the faculty of grades 1-12 have advanced degrees, including four with doctorates. All classroom teachers have English as their mother tongue, a minimum of two years teaching experience and a Bachelor's degree. 64% of the faculty have been at Marymount over 4 years, 25% over 10 years, and 14% over 15 years.  The present headmistress has been in her position since September 2003.

Marymount is committed to continued professional development.  Teachers regularly participate in educational conferences organized for the European Council of International Schools (ECIS), the Rome International Schools Association (RISA), the Mediterranean Association of International Schools (MAIS), the International Baccalaureate Program, US State Government sponsored programs and other continuing educational opportunities.

"It is both an honor and pleasure to be part o
f the Marymount teaching staff. As I enter my 20th year of teaching here I continue to be impressed with the community spirit and dedicated faculty members. One thing that has always impressed me about the students is the way in which they develop solid and long lasting friendships that continue to grow even after they have left our school. Being part of this international community has exposed me to many different cultures, and as a result, has been an incredible learning experience."

Mr. Romano, Dean of Students
IB Coordinator/Mathematics

"Internationality was a great priority for our Founder, Father Jean Gailhac. For this reason, I decided to minister to the International community. My experience as a teacher at Marymount International School, Rome, has been both meaningful and enriching. Involvement with the many international and rich cultures in our diverse but unified community at this school is rewarding, gratifying and life-giving as we strive to instill in our students a greater understanding of the richness of this international experience within a multi-cultural/religious environment."

Sr. Maryjane, 3rd Grade Teacher

"Teaching at Marymount gives the unique opportunity to introduce the students to the endlessly fascinating city of Rome. Marymount students will walk through the Roman Forum, stand within the Pantheon, look up at the Sistine Ceiling, pass through the rooms that Leonardo da Vinci used in the Vatican Palace. How many students have this opportunity? It is important to me that they are instructed to look critically at these monuments that so many hurry past on the way to another monument. Living with Rome is uniquely enriching."

Dr. Wilberding, Middle and Secondary School Art History/Religion

"Since 1996 I have taught at Marymount in both 2nd and 4th grades. The multicultural composition of the children and teachers is stimulating. Noticeable aspects of the school are the beautiful and uplifting campus, the involvement of parents in their children's education and their support to teachers. The class field trips to special places such as Pompeii, Tarquinia, St.Peter's and other Roman sites makes history come alive. It is fascinating to observe how the children enjoy school because of the variety of subjects, their close friendships, the special dress up days such as Halloween and Carnivale and the magical plays and shows in which they participate."

Ms. Tyrrell, 4th Grade Teacher

"Marymount provides a safe, structured learninga environment where children can explore, experience, and take risks relevant to their education. They are encouraged and supported as they embark on a lifetime of learning and involvement in the international community. Teaching in this environment is rewarding as I watch children blossom with newfound confidence and enthusiasm for their studies. Being a parent of a student in the elementary school, I can see first hand the effects of the Marymount education on my child's development; academically, socially and spiritually. Being part of the Marymount community is a rewarding experience for our whole family."

Ms. Sullivan, First Grade Teacher and Parent

"I enjoy teaching at Marymount because of the caring relationships with students who share the joy of learning and keep me believing in the reality of global peace."

Mrs. Nace, Secondary School English

I have seen many changes as I have worked at Marymount over 10 years in Early Childhood. What hasn't changed is the amount of care and attention given by the teachers to make the children's first experience of school a happy one. Each year I have the privilege of working with children from different countries. What strikes me is the similarities between the children. They all need a secure, happy and stimulating environment in order to develop to their full potential. Here at Marymount we strive daily to provide each child with experiences which allow them to follow their own interests and traditions whilst providing them with a good foundation in the skills needed for life."
