Secondary
School:
Offering
an enriching educational program of the highest standard is the primary
focus of the secondary school. Marymount offers an American College Preparatory
program with a strong American Curriculum and International Baccalaureate
(IB) program. The intensive course of studies ensures that students take
a combination of required and elective classes in English, mathematics,
science, modern languages, social studies, religious education, fine arts,
computers, and physical education. A particularly rigorous and exciting
feature of this curriculum is the IB diploma for students in grades eleven
and twelve. During the last four years of secondary school, Terrance McAndrews,
the Secondary School Principal, and James Romano, the IB Coordinator,
guide secondary school students in selecting appropriate courses each
year. Over the last three years 96% of Marymount IB candidates have passed
the exams, scoring an average of 35 - a score of 24 is passing. This year
Marymount has added to its staff a Curriculum Coordinator, Anthony Burger,
to ensure that the excellent education Marymount is famous for continues
on into the future.
Marymount’s
administration and faculty come from a variety of cultural and educational
backgrounds - five of our teachers are IB examiners and seven hold Doctoral
Degrees in varying fields. All secondary school teachers are dedicated
to sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm for learning with their students.
In order to provide proper attention to each pupil’s development,
class sizes are intentionally kept small. Students enjoy the personal
attention of their teachers in a nurturing atmosphere.
The geographical location of Marymount enables the school to expand the
knowledge of the students through participation in numerous field trips
to sites of great historical and artistic interest, both locally and throughout
Europe. The academic program is complemented by a variety of activities
that provide students opportunities for growth beyond the classrooms.
A full range of sports, organizations, and clubs offer students the possibility
to develop individual and social skills while learning the value of teamwork,
service, and positive leadership.
From the beginning of grade six to the final year in grade twelve students
are guided and aided in making responsible choices about their educations.
Toward the completion of secondary school students begin meeting with
the College Counselor, Bryn Jenkins, to discuss their future university
plans and for assistance in identifying possible future careers.

"A good education is one which results in all kinds of growth - intellectual,
physical, moral, social, emotional and spiritual. A good school is one
which creates authentic opportunities for its students to grow in all
these ways."

Secondary School Principal
