EARLY
CHILDHOOD:
The Early Childhood Center offers a warm and caring environment where there is a balanced approach between academic skills and creativity, with emphasis on reading and writing, especially in the kindergarten year.
The curriculum is taught primarily through thematic units that incorporate contemporary and traditional children's literature. The units are the vehicle through which the teachers develop the skills and concepts that have been identified as consistent with the school's philosophy "to encourage and affirm personal growth". Mathematics is taught largely through hands-on, practical activities, as well as oral math and more traditional activities.
Special days include field trips, Bedtime Story Day, Celebration of 100 and Beach Day. Performances on the stage integrate the study of fairy tales, poetry, language arts and music. The learning environment of bright colorful classrooms, three beautiful outdoor play areas, a gymnastics/multipurpose room, a library and an imaginative play area are dedicated to the 3-5 year olds in the Early Childhood Center.
