At the request of American Officers stationed in Rome with the Allied
Army of Occupation, the RSHM opened Marymount International School on
October 16, 1946 as the first international school in
Rome. The school began with 30 students in a makeshift classroom on the
premises of Istituto Marymount on Via Nomentana, where the school continued
to attract students and opened a boarding section in 1947. Eventually,
the demand for the new school greatly outpaced the space available on
Via Nomentana, and in 1953 the RSHM purchased the Villa Lauchli
and seven acres of land as the new location for Marymount International
School.
